News Gift of new mural in view at Bradfield
Elementary School "She began her work at Bradfield in 1994 when the
principal, Janie Miller, requested the Beatrix Potter theme walls
just inside the front doors to brighten the building. Later that
year she added a Victorian house and porch scene and painted a Texas
landscape scene in the cafeteria with huge oak trees, and a
meandering road. Within the Highland Park Independent School
District, her murals can also be found at Armstrong Elementary
School."

Star Courier Mural, mural on the wall - Artwork helps teach students about
past "Artist
Kathy Holland completed a huge mural in the school's library last
May depicting the now non-existing Frankford community of the
1890's.
The mural features animals and
vegetation native to Collin County and north central Texas, as well
as historically accurate buildings and the old Frankford church and
cemetery, which still exist near Frankford Road and the Dallas North
Tollway. Holland, who spent nine days working on the mural
without the aid of pre-sketching, said painting the Frankford mural
was one of the most rewarding projects of her career."

September 21, 2001 The
Rowlett Lakeshore Times Mural painter teaches kids while
creating "When
20 first-graders entered the Dorsey Elementary School office, where
Holland was painting on Tuesday, they stood there pointing in
amazement as she educated the children about the mural she was
creating. I think it is important for children to see how things
happen artistically, said Holland, who has been painting murals for 20 years. I
don't want to paint Donald Duck. I want my paintings to be an
educational tool to the children. The children get excited when
you use their idea, because they will remember they had a part in
the mural for the rest of their life, said Holland. That's why it is
important for students to be a part of
it." |
